What to check before booking a skin clinic in Korea
Availability is not the first thing to check. Confirm who will assess and treat you, what credentials and records can be verified, and who will answer after you leave Korea.

Four checks before you book
Confirm whether the same doctor consults and treats, what the quote includes, whether risks and recovery can be explained in your language, and how the clinic handles questions after you return home.
Registration, KAHF and specialist status
Registration to attract foreign patients, KAHF evaluation and certification, and a doctor’s board-certified specialist status are three separate facts. One does not prove the others.
| Label | What it checks | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Foreign-patient registration | Whether the institution is registered to attract foreign patients | The individual doctor’s specialty or experience with one procedure |
| KAHF evaluation and certification | Whether foreign-patient management and patient-safety systems were evaluated | Results for every procedure or the skill of an individual doctor |
| Board-certified specialist status | The specialty qualification held by the individual doctor | The clinic’s language support or aftercare system |
Ask for the exact name and validity period of any registration or certification. Lack of one optional certification does not by itself establish poor care.
The doctor who consults and treats
The clinic brand matters less than the identity of the person assessing and treating you. Ask the booking team for these details in writing.
- The doctor’s full name and exact specialty
- Whether the same doctor performs the consultation and treatment
- Who personally performs the procedure
- Why this treatment is being suggested for your skin and what the alternatives are
- Expected common reactions and uncommon but important risks
Language support and consent
A clinic may be able to book in English without being able to explain contraindications, risks, recovery and alternatives in English. Confirm the level of medical interpretation before you go.
Do not sign a consent form you do not understand. If a translated form is unavailable, keep the questions and answers in writing and reconfirm the procedure, area, dose and final price.
What a written quote should show
A total price alone does not tell you whether two quotes cover the same treatment. Match the unit and included items.
| Item | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Treatment unit | Shots, tip, vial, cc, area and number of sessions |
| Included costs | Consultation, anaesthesia, medication, consumables and follow-up |
| Tax | Whether VAT is included and the final amount payable |
| Changes | Extra cost if the dose or treatment changes after assessment |
| Cancellation | Deposit, cancellation deadline and refund method |
Your treatment record and product details
A treatment record helps another clinician understand what was done if you have a reaction after returning home. Ask what the clinic can provide before paying.
- Treatment date, area and procedure name
- Device model, tip, shot count or the documented range of energy settings
- Injectable product, dose, batch information or product sticker
- Prescribed medication and directions
- Before-and-after photographs and receipt
Clinics do not all provide treatment records in the same format. Requesting the fields in advance is easier than trying to obtain them from another country.
Aftercare contact and dispute support
Confirm the contact channel, response hours, accepted photo format and language used for aftercare. Ask which symptoms should prompt another message or an in-person assessment.
If the treatment differs from what was explained or you need dispute counseling, keep the treatment record, receipt, consent form, dated photographs and messages. The Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency publishes English counseling and application information.
What to bring to the first visit
- The English name on your passport and a working contact number
- Medication, allergies, and pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Current skin medication and skincare products
- Dates, products and areas from previous procedures
- Photographs showing the result you want and changes you want to avoid
See what to prepare for a first visit for a fuller medical and skincare list.
A message to send before booking
Copy these questions into your booking message so fewer decisions are left until you arrive.
- Please provide the full name and exact specialty of the doctor who will consult and treat me.
- Can you provide a written quote showing the procedure, area, shots or dose, and final price including VAT?
- Can risks, alternatives and recovery be explained in my language?
- What treatment record will I receive, and how can I contact the clinic after returning home?
Should I choose only a KAHF-certified institution?
KAHF is one source of information about foreign-patient management and patient-safety systems. It does not by itself determine whether a procedure is suitable or whether one doctor is experienced in it.
Can I book a consultation without committing to treatment?
Ask whether consultation-only appointments are available and whether a consultation fee applies. Decide after the assessment rather than treating the booking as consent.
Can the price change at the clinic?
It may change if the assessed area, dose or treatment changes. Ask for the reason and revised final price before treatment.
What will I need if a problem appears after I fly home?
Keep the treatment record, device or product details, receipt, consent form, dated photographs and clinic messages.
