Will a skin booster fix makeup that will not sit? (Seoul)
If your makeup stopped sitting well, a skin booster is not automatically the answer. The cause splits three ways: dehydration, a disrupted exfoliation cycle, or loss of firmness roughening the surface. If the barrier is compromised, that has to be settled first or the treatment underperforms.

This is one of the most common reasons people book a first dermatology visit in Seoul. The description is always the same. The underlying cause usually is not.
Three causes that look identical
| What you notice | Checked first | Direction |
|---|---|---|
| Tightness right after cleansing | How fast it tightens, cleansing frequency | Barrier recovery, routine adjustment |
| Powdery flaking | Keratin condition, exfoliation frequency | Reset the exfoliation cycle first |
| Clumping around pores | Sebum level, pore shape | Sebum and surface control |
| Breaks down by afternoon | Skin thickness, fine line position | Firmness approach considered alongside |
When moisturiser makes no difference, the problem is usually the barrier itself rather than the surface. At that point reducing products works better than adding them.
Why skin stops behaving the way it used to
Skin ageing does not come from one thing. Collagen and elastin decline over time, and the skin holds less water than it did. Sun exposure, daily habits and repeated irritation speed that up.
When the surface is uneven, light no longer reflects evenly off it. That is usually what is happening when skin looks dull, or when makeup sits on top of it rather than in it. The colour has not darkened; the surface has changed.
When it is worth asking about
- Texture feels rougher than it did
- Makeup no longer sits well
- Skin feels dry and tight through the day
- Fine lines have become noticeable
- Skin looks dull overall
- You want steady maintenance rather than a dramatic change
If inflammation is active right now, or the barrier is badly compromised, settling that first gives a better result than treating through it.
What a skin booster is for
Skin boosters are injected into the upper dermis to improve the skin environment. They are considered when texture, dryness and fine lines appear together.
One treatment does not resolve all three causes. If the exfoliation cycle is disrupted or the barrier is damaged, settling that first produces a noticeably better response.
Cosmetics, boosters and fillers reach different layers
| Type | Where it acts | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Cosmetics | Surface and stratum corneum | Hydration, surface smoothing |
| Skin booster | Upper dermis | Texture, dryness, fine lines |
| Filler | Deep dermis and below | Volume in hollowed areas |
If you are visiting Korea
Injection marks and redness can stay for a few days. Do not schedule this immediately before a flight, a shoot or an event. Courses are usually spaced weeks apart, which rarely fits a short stay, so say how many days you have at the consultation.
Bring the products you currently use. Formulation habits differ between markets, and overlapping exfoliating actives are a common reason recovery is slow.
Precautions
Redness, swelling and injection marks can follow, and recovery speed varies. Alcohol, saunas and intense exercise are best paused for a while. Mention pregnancy, breastfeeding or anticoagulant use at the consultation.
Frequently asked questions
Will makeup sit better straight away?
No. Texture changes usually appear over several weeks. If the cause is keratin or barrier related, that has to be addressed before you feel a difference.
How many sessions?
It is difficult to fix in advance. The interval and count are adjusted after seeing the first response.
There are many boosters. How do they differ?
They differ in composition and purpose. What matters first is whether your concern is texture and dryness, or firmness.
