Wedding prep for the parents: when to start

Before a wedding, what matters is not only which procedures you have, but when you start. Recovery time differs by procedure, so booking everything at once leaves swelling and bruising overlapping close to the day.

Three concerns that come up most often

Requests from parents of the couple fall into roughly three groups. Skin boosters or fillers are often considered alongside them.

ConcernUsual approach
Jawline and cheeks sagging, deepening nasolabial foldsLifting
Expression lines on the forehead, glabella and around the eyesBotulinum toxin
Makeup sitting badly, dull and dry textureSkin texture and hydration care

There are tendencies by age group, but in consultation skin thickness, elasticity and the degree of sagging matter more than age.

If fine lines and dryness are the main issue, toxin or skin conditioning comes first. If cheek volume and jawline changes are more noticeable, lifting is considered alongside.

The same “prep” takes different routes depending on what bothers you most.

Why two to three months ahead

Planning two to three months before the wedding leaves enough room between sessions and enough recovery time. Each procedure shows its effect and settles on a different schedule.

  • Botulinum toxin usually begins to show change within several days to two weeks
  • Lifting procedures may need time for initial swelling and tightness to settle
  • Skin boosters and skin care work over repeated sessions rather than one visit

A common question is whether something can be done at the last minute. Adding a new procedure right before the day is not advisable. Swelling or bruising that has not fully settled, or a stiff expression when smiling, will be noticed on the day that matters most.

If little time remains, gentle texture and soothing care carries the least risk.

Dr. Lee explaining the schedule during a consultation.

Order when several procedures are planned

Booking everything at once means swelling and recovery periods overlap. Procedures that need recovery go first, gentler ones later.

TimingWhat is doneWhy
D-90 to D-60Thread lifting and contouring, which may bruiseLongest recovery, so it starts first
D-60 to D-30Botulinum toxinExpression needs time to settle naturally
D-30 to D-14Skin boosters and texture careBuilding up skin condition
Around D-14Soothing and hydration onlyNothing new is added at this stage

Actual timing varies with the procedure, skin condition and how quickly you recover.

If you are travelling to Korea for this, plan the flight home as part of the schedule. Leaving only a day or two between the last session and a long flight is not advisable, since swelling can persist in the cabin.

The goal is that nothing looks done

The most common worry in consultation is looking unnatural at a family member's wedding.

The goal is not a visible result. Not looking tired in photographs, makeup sitting well, a tidy facial line, and an expression that still moves naturally. That is what matters here.

Deciding what not to do within the time available matters as much as deciding what to do. So the first question in consultation is which area looks most tired to you. Consultation and assessment are done by the doctor directly.

What to tell us before the consultation

Since the date is fixed, anything that affects recovery needs checking in advance.

  • Medications you take, especially anything affecting bleeding or bruising (anticoagulants, aspirin and similar)
  • Whether you bruise easily
  • Recent procedures and when they were done
  • Any allergy to local anaesthetic or medication
  • A tendency to keloid or raised scarring
  • Other events such as photo sessions or family meetings besides the wedding

Swelling, bruising and temporary tightness can follow, and recovery speed varies. If swelling or pain lasts longer than expected, it is safer to be seen.

Frequently asked questions

The same symptom can lead to a different plan depending on your skin. You can ask Dr Lee Sang-soo directly. Contact Mirabelle Clinic

Toxin or lifting, which is better?

They address different problems. Prominent expression lines point to toxin; a facial contour that has lost definition points to lifting. If both apply, they can be scheduled in sequence depending on skin condition and the date.

The wedding is a month away. Is it too late to start?

You can start, but the options narrow. Anything likely to leave swelling or bruising is difficult, so texture and soothing care is the safer route.

Can several procedures be done on the same day?

The problem is overlapping recovery. When the treated layer and recovery time differ, separating the dates usually gives a better result.

Is skin care alone enough?

It depends on what bothers you most. If makeup sitting badly and dullness are the main concerns, texture and hydration care alone can be enough.
