What actually sets the price of a treatment in Korea
Ask what a treatment costs and every clinic gives you a different number. When two quotes for the same-sounding treatment are far apart, which one is right? Once you know what moves the price, you can actually compare them.
What moves the price
The same treatment varies with the four things below, which is why putting two quotes side by side on name alone tells you little.
Intensity and number of sessions weigh most. On the same device, how densely it is applied changes consumable use, and whether it is done in one sitting or spread out changes the total.
What changed in 2026
The VAT refund for foreign visitors having aesthetic treatments ended on 1 January 2026. There used to be a refund process on departure; there is not now. The quoted amount plus VAT is your final cost.
When you get a quote, check first whether it already includes VAT. The difference is noticeable.
Packages and discounted prices
A multi-session package lowers the per-session price. The catch is that the money leaves at once, and what happens to unused sessions if you stop partway, or if the clinic changes, becomes the question. Ask about the refund terms for unused sessions before you sign, not after.
Whether the advertised price applies to you is a separate matter. Conditions like first visit only, one area only, or up to a set volume are common. In consultation, ask whether that figure applies to your case as written.
If a quote is far below the range, it is worth asking why. Usually the volume was reduced, a different device is used, or the session count is counted differently. Being cheaper is not the problem. Not knowing what was reduced is.
Three things to check on any quote
- Whether VAT is included · with the refund gone from 2026, 10% on top is the real difference
- How many sessions it covers · one session or the whole course
- Whether follow-up is included · review visits and any touch-up
Get these three wrong and the total moves a long way. When you compare quotes for the same treatment at two clinics, line them up on these three first.
Before you pay
Cosmetic treatments are not covered by Korean national health insurance. You pay in full, and private insurance usually does not apply either. Where there is a medical purpose mixed in it can differ, so ask in advance whether your case qualifies.
If you leave a deposit, how much comes back depends on when you cancel. If your dates are not fixed yet, booking a consultation without a deposit is an option.
When cheaper is not a saving
If a lower quote reflects lower intensity or fewer sessions, the result follows. If it is a bundle discount, recovery periods may overlap. Read alongside why several treatments at once is not a bargain.
Why do clinics quote such different prices?
Devices and consumables, intensity and session count, and the time spent in consultation all differ. The same name can mean a different amount of work.
